CAMP ENTERTAINMENT
SPECIAL TRAIN TO BE RUN
A large and influential gathering was held at the Y.M.C.A. rooms last evening for the purpose of organising and arranging concerts and lectures for the entertainment of the soldiers during the winter months. The following officers were elected: —President, Mr. D. Ewen ; vice-presidents, Messrs. S. E. Luttrell, T. W. Hislop, G. Shirtcliffe, G. A. Chapman, W. H. George, W. Naismith, J. M'lntosh, and the-Hon. J. G. W. Aitken; oommitte, Mesdames Pope, F. Wilson, C. H. Stephens, . Donne, Misses G. F. Watkins, E. Driscoll, C. Denliard, T. M'Enroe, P. Parsons, M. Caldcw, E. Simpson, Betty Purdom, J. Petrie, M. Fix, E. Lissack, E. Smith, L. Caddick, N. Castles, Z. Hugo, Messrs. H. Hodges, E. J. Hill, R. Blow, F. S. Pope, W. D. Gorham, R. Parker, C. W. : Iverry, H. Temple White, H. S. Claughton, S. Allright, S. L. Exton, J. B. Dykes, C. H. Stephens, H. Wood, Zanto Wood, Culford Bell, H. Moschini, F. V. Waters, C. Clarkson, Courtney Mohr, F. Charlton, J. M. It-was decided to arrange entertain' ments for tho men on Mondays, AYednesdays, and Saturdays, whenever suitable.
The chairman and secretary were deputed to arrange a series of lectures. Mr. Varney reported that Mr. S. E. Luttrell, the well-known Christchurch architect, had authorised Mr. R. E. Sinclair to make an offer to defray the cost of one train per week to convey concert parties to the camp in order to entertain the soldiers. The secretary was instructed to writo and: thank-Mr. Liittroll for his splendid offer, which will enablo concert parties to trarel with moro comfort during the cold weather.
The Juno programme of concerts will be:—May 31, Miss Caddick's party; June 2, Mr. E. J. Hill's party; June 10, Wellington Liedertafel; June 12, Mr. H. S. Claughton's party; June 16, Mr. R. Blow's party; June 14, Mr. W. Goudie's party; June 19, special concert; Juno 23, Mr. Hamilton Hodges' party; June 26, special concort (to bo arranged); Juno 28, Mr. F. S. Pope's party; June 30, Mr. H. Temple White's party. Artists -willing to render assistance should at once communicate with the honorary secretary, Mr. W. Goudie, care of Y.M.C.A.. Institutions and musical societies, both vocal and instrumental, societies willing to help are also invited to co-operate. Owners of cars desirous of assisting are also invited to communicato with the secretary.
