BIG CONFERENCE SUGGESTED. Mr. 11. G. Hill has given notice to move the following resolution at the meeting of the Council of the Central Chamber of Commerce on Monday, next:

—''That this Chamber communicate with overy Chamber of Commerce, Agricultural and Pastoral Association, industrial Association, Trades and Labour Council, Farmers' Union, Patriotic Society, and any other body interested, suggesting that a monster conference be held in Wellington during the sitting of the next Parliament, with the object of

."(a) deciding-what action is best calculated to prevent the possibility of Germany and Austria trading with New Zealand after the war is over, and

"(b) considering, in view of tho de- ' liberate and systematic violation of | every recognised principle ol' warfare, tho jubilation and official recognition of I thu slaughter of defenceless rac-n, I women, and children, the taking tho oath of allegianco to clio British Empire, while at tho same time remaining German citizens, whether tho time has not arrived when we should recommend tho Government to impose a poll tax of £1000 for each German or Austrian and that no naturalisation papers be gi anted unless the applicant has been resident of New Zealand for ten years. 11l tho event of false declaration all property of the person concerned shall, in addition to any penalty imposed by civil or military courts, bo confiscated for tlio benefit of the State. * "(c) To present such recommendations as are agreed to by. petition to Parliament backed up by a procession of delegates and the public generally."
