MASTERTON NOTES

Tho election of Mr. C. E. Daniell, of Mastdrton, to the chairmanship of tho Wellington Harbour Board has given very great satisfaction in the Wairarapa. The Wairarapa previously provided a chairman in the person of the Rev. William Booth, of Carterton, who pier Bided over the board for some years with marked ability. Strangely enough tie, like Mr. Daniell, wns associated with the timber industry.

A financial statement presented l at a meeting on Wednesday of the Wairarapa Executive of tho Great Britain and Allies' Relief Fund showed that a sum of £13,980 had been contributed to date to this fund. This is exclusive of the largo sum contributed for the equipment of the first Expeditionary Force. Twenty-five per cent, of the amount received is being set aside lor the assistnncc of wounded soldiers from the district and their dependents. ' Over fifty ladies were present at a lirst-aid class held under the auspices of the St. Jolin Ambulance Association on Wednesday evening, when Dr. P. R. Cook delivered an interesting address on "First Aid to the Injured." The committee of the Masterton Amateur Theatrical Society has docided that tho profits from the production of "The Toreador" shall be dovoted to the wounded soldiers' fund.
