LES' CLOCHES DE CORNEVILLE
TO BE PERFORMED BY LOCAL OPERATIC SOCIETY. Mr. P. Lftti presided at a full committee meeting of the Wellington Amateur Operatic Society, held last evening. ' The business of the meeting included the outlining of a policy in connection with the immediate future. After a discussion it was decided, on the 'motion of Mr. T. M. Wilford, that an opera should be produced this year, and that the net profits should be devoted to a patriotic fund to be decided upon later. The committee next turned its attention to the opera to be produced. Only two were mentioned, and finally, on the motion of Mr. H. Plimmer, seconded by Mr. W. H. Atack, it was decided to produce Planquette's tuneful work "Les Cloches de Cornville," one of the most popular French light operas ever written, and which has not been heard in Wellington for over twelve years at the least. The decision as to the opera, was unanimous, and it is hoped that arrangement's may be forward enough to commence rehearsals this month.
A committee was set up to go into the matter of the appointment of a musical director, vice Mr. D. A. Kenny. Mr. W. J. Meredith was apnointed property-master, and Mr. A. W. Newton stage . manager.
