HOSPUAL CONTROL

CHAIRMAN FOR ENSUING YEAR.

The first meeing of the recently elected Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday, afternoon. There were present: Dr Platts-Mills, Mesdames M Laren and M'Vicar, Messrs. H. Baldwin, F. Castle, D. Campbell, H. jJieeman, W, Galloway, B. It. Gardener, C. M. Luke. J. W. M'Ewan, F. T. Moore, G. Nash, D. Robertson,J. Smith, W. J. Thompson, Rev. Dr. T im c Stavereri. The first business before the meeting was tha election of a chairman. The secretary (Mr. J. Coyle) took the chair and invited nominations.

Tho following nominations were received:—

Mr. H. Baldwin, nominated by Mr. D. Robertson, and seconded by Mr. D. Campbell.

Mr. C. M. Luke, proposed bv the Rev. 11. Van Staveren, and seconded by Mr. G. 'Nash.

Mr.' B. It. Gardener proposed Mr. J. Smith, but Mr. Smith declined nomination.

It was resolved to have the election by ballot, and Mr. • Baldwin was announced as eleoted.

Mr. Luko congratulated Mr. Baldwin on his election. The position, he said, carried a sense of responsibility, and gave opportunity for good work. He would extend his loyal support to Mr. Baldwin. (Applause.) r, L w ' u thanked the members for the confidence shown by them in. him, and said he hoped he would carry out the work to the satisfaction of the members.

When the question of electing a treasurer came up for consideration, Mr. M'Ewan spoke on tho anomaly of having a treasurer who did not control the funds. He thought it was time they had their leading officer occupying the post of treasurer.

Mr. Robertson thought they bad a good system'at present, and should not make a change. He nominated Mr. F. Castle for the office.

Mr. Castle was unanimously elected. In accepting the position, Mr. Castle said he thought it was time they adopted a system of having a paid treasurer to conduct the business.

The following committees were appointed:—

Hospital.—Mr. J. Smith (chairman), Dr. Platts-Mills, Mrs. M'Vicar, Rev. H. Van Staveren, Messrs. Gardener, Freeman, Galloway, Robertson, . Nash, Luke, M'Ewan.

Charitable Aid Committee.—Mr. D. Campbell (chairman), Mesdames M'Larcn, Wilford, Messrs. Moore', Castle, Pethcrick, Thompson, Rev. J. K. Elliott.

Public Health—Rev. Van Staveren (chairman), Rev. J. K. Elliott, Mrs, M'Laren, and Messre. W. J. Thompson and C. M. Luke.

Finance and Policy,—Messrs. H. Baldwin (chairman), F. Castle (treasurer), * Smith, Campbell, Gardener, and Nash, and the Rev. Mr Van Sta>eren.
