WELLINGTON ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS' SOCIETY

d A meeting of the Wellington Accountant Students' Society was held in the Lecture Hall, Accountants' Chambers, Johnston Street, last night, when Mr, J, L. Arcus, F.1.A.N.Z., presided in the absence of the president over a good attendant of members.

The secretary announced that one of the members of the society, Mr. E. Ashe, who had joined the colours in England, had been wounded in Flauders while serving with the East Surrey Mounted Brigade. He had been invalided to England, but was not sufficiently recovered to rejoin his bti"ade in the tiring. line, A motion of deep sympathy. with the parents of Lieutenant W. Skelton, a prominent member of tho Christchurch Accountant Student's' Society, who has been killed in action at the Dardanelles, was carried, on tho motion of Mr. J. Anton. Mr. J. Johnston, A.1.A.N.Z., chief accountant of the Occan Accident and Guarantee Corporation, read a paper on "Insurance Accounts," in which ho dealt extensively with many of the interesting and intricate points and principles in connection with theso accounts. Tho subject, "Detection of Errors in Trial Balance," was treated in a broad and comprehensive manner by Mr. Cr. W. F. Rowse, who illustrated his essay by specimen forms and figures. Mr. L. O'Connor read a very practical paper on "Solicitors' Trust Accounts." This subject merited a good deal of interest on account of the legislation making it compulsory for every solicitor to have his trust, account audited at least once a year by a registered accountant. The essayist displayed a deep practical insight into theso recounts, and succeeded in giving the members a clear idea of the working of the trust accounts. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the essayists. The chairman announced that Air. H. F. Von Haast would deliver a- lecture on "Voluntary Liquidations" at the r.ext meeting of the society.
