THE CASE OF GERMAN RESIDENTS According to a Press Associatioi message from Dunedin, published yes terday morning, agitation has been rc vived to have all non-naturalised enemi subjects in the Dominion interned, a: a precautionary measure. The Mayoi of Dunedin described the recent evont< which have taken place as 'hollisl practices" of tho Germans. Ho fur ther emphasised the need for all citizens and British subjects to rocognisi that they were pledged to honour the "Scrap of paper" which gave natural ised enemy subjects the rights, privi leges, and freedom of British subjects The Mayor of Dunedin agreed to a request to call a public meeting to discuss the question of tho treatment anc restriction of enemy subjects who might be regarded as potential foes. At Hit sanK iiz-.c. he jioped tho people of Dunedin would do nothing to hamper tin Government which was probably working according to instructions from the Imperial Government. The matter was referred to the Minister of Defence (the Hon. J'as. Allen' yesterday, and Mr. Allen said thai while, of course, he sympathised wit? the feelings about these savage practices of the Germans which have beer recorded, at tlie same time we have t.< recollect there are living amongst us many Germans, naturalised subjects, who had been living "here for manj years. They had never done anvthinc against us, and we could not considei them as savage enemies until we had soma proof of it.
