RECRUITING DEMONSTRATION
♦ IN PALMERSTON NORTH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Palmerston North, May 12; . A great recruiting demonstration was held here to-day. Speeches were delivered by the Prime Minister, Mr. W. F. Massey, Dr. M'Nab, M.P., and Mr. D. Buick, member for the district. Thirty enlisted. The following resolution was carried: "(1) Inasmuch as it is no longer a_ war with an honourable nation, but with a combination of criminals,, whose methods were those of assassination, _ piracy, and murder in the most revolting" and fiendish forms, this meeting _ urge on the Government, ■ and especially _ the Prime Minister, that they communicate with the Imperial Government emphasising the necessity of confiscating to the Crown tho property of unnaturalised Germans; (2) that Germans naturalised in New Zealand be required to prove their loyalty to' the British Crown by forswearing German citizenship; (3) that unnaturalised Germans'be interned forthwith, and that Germans, naturalised or not, proved to have expressed views dorogatory to the' British or their allies, or hostile to the cause of Groat Britain and her allies, be immediately arrested and tried for high treason."
