AUSTRALIA'S EXHIBITION COMMISSIONERS
FEDERAL PREMIER EXPLAINS THEIR RESIGNATIONS. (Rec. May 11, 8.5 p.m.) Melbourne, May 11. Referring to tho resignations of Mr. Dcakin and Mr. Neilsen (Australian Commissioners at. the Panama Exhibition), llr. Fishor (Federal l'lime .Minister) said that ho regretted that a mere question of etiquette should have attained such importance. The troublo between Mr. Deakin and tho Government reached a crisis when Mr. Mahon recalled the secretary of the Commission and appointed a new secretary, Mr. Oughton, without consulting the Commissioners. The latter refused to recognise Mr. Oughton, and resigned. It is understood that the resignations will be accepted, and tho Commission's affairs wound up. Mr. Mahon stated that the work of the Commission had practically been finished. Reports showed that tho American papers wore taking no notice of tho Australian section owing to tho Commission not having funds to subsidise the Press far advertisements.
