TWO ORPHANED BOYS
In kite reports of the missing in the sinking of tne Lusitania, reference was , made to tlie sad fate which overtook a family named Gardner, bound for New Zealand. Two boys, one 16 and'the other 12 years of age, lost their parents' tinder most distressing circumstances, and were left stranded and penniless, without tickets, at Queenstown. It appears that Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner (not "Gardner") were New Zealanders, but had lived in Canada for the'last twenty years. They recently visited New Zealand, and while here Mr. Gardiner bought a fruit farm in tlio Nelson district for his 21-year-old. son, who is now settled'there. The parents remained in Canada, and after winding up .their interests there, took a holiday with their two boys, sailing by tho Liisitaniaj en route for New Zealand, via Europe. The Public Trustee holds family funds which were placed : with tho Department, and a sum of money, has been cabled Home for the passage of tie boys out here.
