Police cases

Mr, D. G. A. Oooper, S.M., presided over a sitting of the Magistrate s Court on Saturday.

A remand to May 12 was granted in the ca«e of Hugh Douglas, charged— (1) with assaulting Frederick Lark so as to cause him actual bodily harm; (2) assaulting Walter Rogars; (3) assaulting William Gregory; and (4) damaging a. coat valued at los., the property of William Gregory. In applying for the remand, Inspector Rendrey stated that one of the men accused had assaulted had had three teeth knocked out, while another had had several wounds inflicted on him by a dog hook. ■ Michael Helm was remanded to May 12, on the application of Chief Detective Boddam, on a charge of forging the name of J. H. Gilchrist to a cheque for £5 Bs., and uttering the same to Edward Cockayne. John Bennett was convicted' and discharged for drunkenness and fined 205., with witness's expenses 4s . in default three days' gaol, for indecency. Kenneth M'L<?od was fined 405., in default seven days' jgaol, for indecency in Buckle Strcst. Thomas M'Donald was fired 205., in default three days' gaol, for using threatening behaviour. For drunkenness, George William Jackson, (prohibited) was fined 405., in default seven days'' gaol, and Allan M'Phee fined 10s., or 48 hours.
