KILLED ON THE RAILWAY. I

(By TelesraDh.-Presfi Association.) Auokland, May 8. ■William Monaghan, a well-iaiovm local identity, was killed on the railway lino at Ellerslie last night. It is presumed that he fell off the train, or finding that he was carried past 3iis etopping place, got off at the next station and was walking back along tho railway line to Ellerslie w'lion overtaken by a train. Tho deceased was seventy yoars of age and was wealthy. He figured in tlio Supremo a.nd Bankruptcy Courts on several occasions, and on ono occasion his solicitor stated that Monagahan was worth between £10,000 and £LI,OOO.

DEATH FROM BURNS.

Auckland, May 8. !An inquest into ilio death of Joseph Wlliam Charley, aged 65, who died in the Auckland Hospital, showed that the deceased was found at his residence at Mount Albert with very severe wounds in the hand and face, and on other parts of the body, caused by his bed having caught fire while ho was lying on it. The deceased had attributed the fire to a lighted candle setting his pillow ablaze. Ho thought ho had oxtinfcuished it, and went to sleep. Later ho was awakened and found the bed ablaze. The verdict was that death Was due to burns.

DIED IN CHURCH.

Wostport, May 0. Patrick Drennan, an old resident, married, (33 years of age, expired at the Catholic Clmrch iliis morning. Death is supposed to hav;e been caused by heart failure.
