PETONE MYSTERY I

THREE PEOPLE MISSING POLICE SEARCH FAILS Superintendent Ellison, officer in charge of the Wellington Police district, received a report from Petone last ovening stating that three residents— ilrs. Nora G. Cameron, her daughter Queenie, aged 10 years, and her son Donald, aged 14 years—nad been missing since Friday morning, and could not bo traced. . Mrs. Cameron is the wife of Phillip Noil Cameron, farmer, of 194 Hutt Road, Petone, and her disappearance was reported to the police by her husband. The information received by the police leaves the affair surrounded in a good deal of mystery, Mrs. Cameron's husband owns a farm at Horokiivi, and he states that he left Petone for Horokiwi before 5 o'clock on Friday morning. He occupied a separate room, and saw no member of the family before he left.' He returned home at 7 p.m. on Friday, and, seeing none of the family, concluded they were at a picture entertainment, and went off to bed. Again on Saturday morning he states he saw no member of the family before leaving for the farm. Thoy ; were missing on his return on Saturday evening, and he then made a search and inquired as to their whereabouts. Yesterday ho reported their disappearance to the police, and Sergeant Forster and other members of the Petone police staff conducted a search in the Petone ] and Korokoro districts without finding any trace of the missing people. Two girls, named _ Dunaas, aged 10 and 11 years respectively, have informed the police that at about 6 a.m. on Friday-thoy saw Cameromin the yard, and heard Mrs, Cameron in the House ; growling about the smoke. Later the ■ children looked out of their window and saw Mrs. Cameron and her eon and daughter running along the road in 1 their "stocking feet" in the direction of ■ Petone. ' Superintendent Ellison has directed 1 the search to be continued and full in- 1 vestigation to bo made.
