oureed by an inherited craving for drink, should bo rather shadowy. But tho Whirl family, tho awful Mrs. Gundy, tho Dickciisiau Mr. Bastable, and ilia ill-troated honchman, tho unlucky Josh —these are nil characters of whom any novelist might well ho prolld. FOR THE CHILDREN. May Wynne's new story of children, and, so 1 presume, for ohildron, "Murray Finds a 01mm" (Stanley Paul nnd Co.), is a woll-written study, ol child life, in which tho element of humour id agreeably present. There is a "now haby" in tho slor.y whoso presonco on tlio scene at first groatly astonishes the hero and several "grown-ups, whose interest in and nll'ection for tho child characters is suggested with a pleasantly sympathetic touch. Tlicro are some excellent illustrations, and as a gift for children the story should bo very popular.
