Fighting on Hill 60 still continues, and, the 'Allies have recovered some of their lost trenches. Heavy fighting is also in progress near Steenstraate, on the Ypres line, where a night attack has been repulsed. From" the eastern theatre comes the heaviest fighting. A prolonged battle is raging on'the Carpathian front, and the' Russians have been, severely tried. An Austrian communique lays further claim 'to the staggering victory referred to in previous German messages, but the Russian Embassy in Paris gives the enemy the lie direct. Italy's war plans are interestingly discussed by the "Times" military correspondent, who offers alternative suggestions as to the method by which the Italians will open the war with Austria. The 'Austro-Itaiian crisis has agitated the Berlin Press, which is uttering frantic threats to Italy. Meanwhile the Kaiser and his Ministers are conferring on the subject. Japan has issued an ultimatum to China, ■.and given the latter till Sunday to deliver her reply.
