ARBITRATION COURT
0 PRIVATE HOTELS DISPUTE. The sittings of the Court of Arbiter tion were resumed yesterday. His Honour, Mr. Justice Stringer, presided, and sitting with him as assessors wore Messrs. E. F. Duthie (employers' representative) and J. A. M'Cullough (employees' representative). I%© first business transacted was the further hearing of' the dispute between the Wellington Hotel, Club, and Restaurant Workers' Union and the proprietors of private hotels, restaurants, and tearooms. Evidence had been given on the previous day, and after hearing tho argument of Mr. W. A. W. Grenfell (for tho employers), and Mr. E. J. Carev (for the union),-the Court rcsorvod decision.
BUILDING TRADES' LABOURERS
The dispute between the Wellington Building Trades' Labourers' Union and tho employers was then called. Mr. E. _ Kennedy appeared for the union, while Mr. Grenfell conducted the case for the employers. The union asked for a forty-four hour week and wages at the rate of Is. 4d. an hour; also the old style of preference.
Exemptions from the scope of the award were granted tho City Council, Harbour Board, Miramar Borough Counand Patent Slip Company. Application was made also for exemption by a number of other employers. To those the union objected, and Mr. Grenfell suggested, as a compromise, that the limited exemption mado in tho painters' award be agreed to. After evidenco had been tendered by both sides, the Court reserved decision.
STONEMASONS' DISPUTE.
When the stonemasons' dispute came on for hearing, Mr. John Barr appeared for the union, and Mr. Gronfell for the employers. Tho hearing was completed by 5 p.m., and tho Court, as in the previous cases, reserved its decision.
The union's claim is for a 44-houi week, with wages at the rate of Is. 9d. per hour, a clear definition of stonemasons' work, and special demands in regard to preference, apprentices, and other such matters.
