— <t Dr. Graham Robertson has taken Dr. Coirie's practice at Masterton until the end of the year. Mr. P. Stevens, of the Wellington Gas Company's Miramar staff, was presented by Mr. Ramsden, on behalf of tho staff, with a presentation, prior to his leaving the company's employ to ioin the next reinforcements. Mr. Robert Christopher Cos, international representative of Messrs. Thos. Hardy and Son, Adelaide, S.A., died suddonly at Auckland on Sunday last. The interment will take place in' "\\ ellington. Prior to his departure for the 'i'rentham Camp, Lieutenant C. K. Doe nas entertained at a farewell gathering by the chairman and staff of tho Ashburton County Council. The chairman (Mr. C. J. Harper) remarked that Lieutenant Dee had been a member of the council's staff since his boyhood. The Prime Minister has advised Mr. C. P. Stitchbury, of Auckland, of tho death of Lis brother-in-law, Lieutenant Ronald T. Matheson, who was killed in action in German West Africa.' Lieutenant Matheson was a native of Tauranga. Her went to the Transvaal in 1900, and fought in tho South African War as a member of the Imperial Light Horse. When the present war started he volunteered, and received a commission. Ho had been through all the fighting in German South-West Africa. His widowed mother resides at Tauranga.—Press Association.

The long service medal of the Colonial Auxiliary Forces has been awarded to Lieutenant Edward Henry Fisher (Unattached List), ■ who has served in tho forces for over twenty years.

Mr. Fleming Laurenson, well known in bowling circles, left for Sydney yesterday for England on business connected with a local patent for the resoling of boots rapidly.

Sergeant D. J. Cummings has been promoted to be police gaoler at Rotorua., vice Sergeant Eales, transferred.

Information has been received in Auckland that Staff-Ssrgeant-Major J. J. Wass, Army Service Corps, and Sergeant V. C. S. Beer, formerly brigade-sergeant-major to tho Auckland Mounted Rifle Brigade, have been freed from their contract with the New Zealand Government in order to enable them to accept commissions in tho British Army. Both men were lent to the New Zealand Government for service with the Territorials, and they are at present ; with the Expeditionary Force at the Dardanelles. Staff-Sergeant-Major Wasa was sergeant-major to the Army Service Corps in Auckland. Before coming to tlifl Dominion, Sergeant Beer belonged to the 2nd Dragoon Guards.
