SLAUGHTERMEN'S UNION

9 EXECUTIVE VOTED OUT OF OFFICE. (By Tclograph.—Press Association.) Chrlstcliuroh, May 6. At a special meeting of the Christnhurch Export Slaughtermen's Union last evening the president and executive were turned out of office by a majority of three on the voting, and a new president and executive were elected.

A member of the union informed a reporter that slaughtermen visiting the Dominion from Australia were responsible for the change. Formerly the annual meeting was held in June, by which time the Australians had left the Dominion. The informant alleged that tlio Australian members of the union had secured an' alteration in the rules whereby the meeting was held in May, when the oversea slaughtermen were present in force. The objection they had to the executive which was turned out was that they_ did not approve of the terms upon which it stood with the employers. The new executive applied to the former officers after the meeting for the books of the union, especially for the bank book, but were informed that the treasurer intended to keep the books, as it was considered that their being voted out of office was illegal.

Sixty-one hours per week was tho average number worked by a waitress during tho period from January 19 last to April 30. She gave this information in tho Court of Arbitration vesterday morning, and stated that in each of two different weeks she worked over 72 hours, excluding tinie allowed for menla. Her cash weekly wage was 225. 6d., but she had earned a total sum of 14s. 9d; in overtime. During the period referred to she had had to spend a sum of £1 18s. 011 uniforms. Out of tho balance oi' her earnings sho had to provide herself with lodging ; and meals on halfholidays, and she informed the Court that when she bad {.aid tor tho washing of her aprons and treated her landlady to a seat at a picture theatre, there was nothing left to deposit in the Savings Bank. _ International players of the English Football Association are paid a univcrsnl feo of £4 per match. fovei;., __ j
