SEQUEL TO LIFT ACCIDENT

• TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY. (By Telegraph.—Presu Association.) Auckland, May 5. As a sequel to the lift accident which caused the death of Margery Dewes on March 27 last, the National Bank of New Zealand, as the owners of the Bobson Buildings, were charged that thov left the lift in charge of a person under eighteen years of age, viz., a bay of sixteen years and ten months. Defendants pleaded guilty. The Magistrate 'expressed the opinion that the bank was in an unfortunate position. Ele tlought Turnbull and Jones, the firm of contractors for the maintaining of the lift, were more responsible. It was explained that .they could not be brought within the Act.

'I ho Magistrate imposed a minimnm fine of £0, with costs, as the bank knew nothing of the matter, except so far as the Act made the owners techbically responsible.
