PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE PERMITS.
1 For tho annual provincial conference of tho! Farmers' Union, to be held at Fahiatiia on May 19. and 19, twentyseven remits have been received from : the branches. Among the more impor- ; fcszit of these are the following:— i "That tho conferenco approves of tie proposals for amending tlio National EiidowmentsAct as follows' Section 8 of tho principal Act to be repealed. ' ■'All .national endowment land held at . tho date of the passing of this Amend':ment Act shall,, as suitable opportunity coours, be 6old for cash, or leased with tho option of purchase, Where lands are already leased, the option to purchase to bo offered to the.present lossoc at the actuarial valuation of the State's interest in the land, and the payments ■by way of purchaso to be made by instalments of not less than 10 per cent, of the ascertained value. All moneys arisings from the sale of endowment lands shall be reinvested by the pur- ; chase of city or town proporties, which shall become a part of tho national endowment land, but must be disposed of ' byv leasehold for a term of years."'— 'By the executive. . i. ■ "That the Government be urged to raise by taxation for the purpose of forwarding monthly payments towards alleviating the distress caused by the war, and that this taxation should include a percentage on land, income and .wages on a graduated scale."—By the executive. •

"That- the Governmemt bo: asked to ataend the present method of voting at Harbour Board elections sp that counties may: have the same privileges as now. possessed by boroughs."—Kircalia ißrnnoh. ' - I -That provincial executives appoint , inspection committees to visit: the .wharves, in their respective provinces once a month, and where necessary suggest improvements for the handling of produce."—Wairarapa. Branch. ' |That . this conference desires that .Californian thistle be' removed from Schedule 1 to Schdule 2, and that this conference support the motion passed iby the Bangitikei County Council, viz.: ■'That tliis council is of opinion that •the, Act; so far as Californian thistle is concerned, should bo suspended in regard to grazing land, and .that in agricultural districts the Act should be administered with-discretion, the coun- * cil being of opinion that the Act should Tie', strictly enforced with regard to blackberry, sweetbriar, and ragwort, especially with regard to blackberry growing in town and country gardens.' " —Marion, Jlangaweka, and Rangitikei Branches.
; -"That the compulsory clause in the Noxious Weeds Act to the cutting of the Californian thistle bo deleted."— Pahiatua Branch.'
"That the Government be asked to have the Noxious "Weeds Act fully enforced oyer the whole district."—Makmi Branch.
