FOB THE STATE FIRE INSURANCE 00. It las already been announced that a very prominent and.valuable City block has been secured 'by the State Fire Insurance Department, which intends to erect a substantial home for itself in the heart of the City. This property is the corner site of Lambton Quay and TVaring Taylor Street, for a long term of jears the property of Messrs. Joseph Nathan and Co. The property has a frontage to Lambton Quay of 104 ft., and one to Waring Taylor Street of 87ft. The section'is irregular, 60 much so that the_ back line measurement is 134 ft., giving a splendid area for a large building, on a Bite that dominates the best half of Lambton Quay. The price paid for the land was £22,500. On this block the State Fire Department Board intends to erect a magnificent five-storied building that will co ver the entire area. Though the board has not so far' discussed plans, suggested plane have been, drawn, providing for a very handsome and dignified building, with a tower erected over the corner, and provision for a spacious and lofty public office, under a stained-glasS dome in the centre of the building, which will admit from a light weil a generous natural light. It is anticipated that there will be little difficulty in letting the major portion of the building, which will be served with modern eleotrio elevators and in every respect will be up to date. It is hoped to make a start with: the new building well before the end of the year. ■.
