LYALL BAY NATIONAL RESERVE
A general meeting of the Lyall Bay Branch of the National Reserve was held at the Maranui School 011 Tuesday evening for the purpose of electing committee and officers. About '50 or 60 at'tended and went through an low's drill under Instructor Asliton prior to the meeting. Mr. Jas. Doyle (chairman) took advantage of the opportunity in aa excellent speech to bring home to the members present the importance of every man who was able to walk stirring himself to advance the movement of National Defence. The following were . elected to the committee: Messrs.' Doyle (chairman), Ward, Bray, Easson, Jack, Mackenzie, and Mee; treasurer, Mr. Robinson; secretary, Mr. Braid. The matter of establishing a miniature rifle range was discussed, A very suitable building having, been offered free by the 'Christchurch Brick Company. A working bee will put the necessary targets in order and* shooting will commence 'almost immediately. Captain Willoughby. of Palmerston North, Territorial officer, was present and promised to .give the company any assistance he could in the way of. instruction to non.com.'s classes. Votes of thanks were accorded Instructor Ashton for his zeal and interest in tlio company, and also Mr. James, secretary pro tern. The company will drill every Tuesday wet or dry. , '
