MISTAKE IN THE ENGINE ROOJL ' Brisbane, April 29. At ail inquiry regarding the mishap to .the Orient liner Omrali (which oraßhcd into the Brisbane wharf on her arrival from Loudon, causing damage to the structure amounting to £1000); tlio pilot said that the port engine had been ordered full speed astern, but ap-' parently the engines had been put the. wrong way. The speed of the ship was not checked until slie struck the wharf. He considered it a mighty risky thing to hold the vessel for three-quarters of an hour on a flood tide. Mr. Garrett, the fourth engineer; btab»d that so far as he knew he worked the engine as directed by telegraph. Evidently he had made a mistake, and put the engine ahead instead of astern.
