FOR VALOUR AT NEUVE CHAPELLE
VICTORIA CROSS AWARDS. London, April 28. Tha Victoria Ci'oss for valour at Neuvo Chapelle has been awarded as under:— Sergeant-Major Daniels and Corporal Noble, both of the Rifle Brigade—For conspicuous bravery. Both were wounded whilo cutting entanglements. Noble died. Private W. .Buckingham, oF the Leicestershire Rogiinont—For rescuing wounded while exposed t.o a heavy fire. ' Private ltivors, of the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment—On his own initiative he advanced to within a few yards of a large number of the enemy on the flank of the company and hurled bombs, causing the enemy to .retire, and relieving the situation.
Rifleman Gobar Singnegi, of the Garwhal 'Rittes—He accompanied a bayonet party with bombs to the enemy's main trench. He was the first on the ground at each traverse, driving the enemy and forcing them to surrender. He was killed during the engagement.
Captain John Henry Arden, a New Zealander, of the Worcestershire Regiment, has been made a' Companion of the Distinguished Service Order for conspicuous gallantry and ability at Neuvo Chapelle. 'When battalion on his right was expelled fron' the trenches ho formed his company under heavy firo,- and counter-attacked the; German right with great determination, enabling tlio battalion to reoccupy the trenches.
