Sir Walter Buchanan to-day increased his bid of £100 for the Belgian flag auctioned recently at Carterton to £1000. This brings' Carterton's total for the flag up to £1835. A BIG DONATION. New Plymouth, April 28. The Belgian National Relief Committee's appeal contained in yesterday's cables has had an immediate effect, the Hon. Oliver Samuel having to-day made a generous contribution or £1000 to tho "Taranaki Herald's" fund. BRITISH NATIONAL FUND. OVERSEA DONATIONS. (By Telegraph.—Press Aesn.—Copyright.) London, April 28. The first day's subscriptions to the National Fund for the Belgians included £28,750 from New South Wales, £20,000 from the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, ' £1000 from Geelong district, £7000 from South Australia, £100 from the Commonwealth, £1000 from West Australian newspapers, £700 from Launceston, and £250 from the Mayor of Dunedin's Fund. MELBA SINCS FOR THE BELGIANS. CONCERT NETS £6100. (Rec. April 28, 8.40 p.m.) Melbourne, April 28. Madame Melba, the famous diva, gave a concert in aid of the Belgians. The concort netted £6100, including £2400 from the sale of' flags. The sum of £132 10a. lid., collected by Eastbourne and Day's Bay ladies on Easter Monday last, has been handed to the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs as a contribution to the fund in aid of Distressed Belgians. Mr. H. D. Bell acknowledges receipt of £1 is. from Mr. H. Allan towards Y.M.C.A. Field Service Fund.
