BOXING

LOCAL COMMITTEE MEETS. The first meeting of the newly-elected Management Committed of the Wellington .Boxing Association was held (last, evening. Mr. R. W. M 1 Villey presiding. The following members■ were present:— Messrs. 0. Bridge. F. Gale, E. Blundell, D. Gurse, J. E. Staples, H. D. Smith, J). Hoggard, N. Coffey, W. Cook, W. Fordham, and W. Talbot (secretary). Messrs. W. J. Barrio qnd W. E. Betliunc wrote tendering their resignations. Theso were' accepted with regret. A letter _ was received from Barney Ireland (middle-freight) offering to accept a match with Pooley for the championship of the Dominion. Sir J. G. Ward wrote accepting the position of patron Of the Wellington Boxing Association. On the motion of Mr. Staples, it was decided that Taylor and Tracey be matched for a purse of £50, the event to, take place about tho middle of next month. It was announced that tho local amateur championships will be held about the middle of Juno. Arrangements were completed for the tournament, which will be hold under the auspices of the association on Monday evening next. It was decided to give the whole of the net proceeds to tho Wounded Soldiers'. Benefit Fund. A capital programme has been arranged and patrons can look forward to a good night's sport.
