Wellington City constituency yesterday. Through Mr. H, Seaton they_ put , before Mr. Herdman the following resolution, which had been approved by large numbers of shopkeepers in Auckland, i Wellington, Christohurch, and Dunedin.' Following was the tost of the resolution"That the present law enabling a poll to be taken on the half-holiday question every two years is a harassing and most unjustifiable enactment. Shopkeepers are not only put to heavy expense to maintain their privileges in the interests of . trade, ' and in conserving the convenience of their customers, but_ boroughs and municipalities are also'exposedto endless outlays of money in connection with the matter. We deem it advisable to petition the Government for; the immediate pg. peal of the-Act, thus placing the business of the country beyond the assaults of agitators- and people who have little direct interest in trade." Mr. Herflman said he would have pleasure in submitting the request to the Prime Minister, who' a 6 Minister of _ Labour; ■ administered ' legislation of this sort".. The members of the deputation could be. assured that their re>quest would have full consideration from the Minister of Labour.
