Turnbull .and -Co., Wd., report having" held a clearing' sale on Thursday last, when they sold, on account of Mr. Jacob Johnston, the whole of ills well-known draught, mores ajid geldings. implements, and sundries. There was a large attendance. .of buyers ■ from all parts of the district, and competition ■was keen throughout the sale. 'The following priccs were realised:—Bay draught more "Belle," £44; brown draught mare Jess, £41; bay draught mare Doll, £40 10s.;- chestnut gelding Bill Sauires, £20; D. F.: Duncan plough, £15 10s.; set discs, £5; Osborne mower, £8; Duncan drill, £25; ljyd. dray, £11; M.H. bihder, £20; rubber-tired gig, £30; trotting sulky, £33; Indian motor-bicycle, £44: harness and trotting gear bronght good-prices,: aiid the sundries and furniture brought prices light" up to clearing sale rates.
Messrs. Dajgety and Co.; Ltd., report on their. Dannevirke sale, held at Millar's Boad yards, Dannevirke, on Friday last:— ,We had a good entry of sheep and a smalt entry of cattle. Competition was not particularly keen, and was mostly left to local buyers. Entries,, however, met with a satisfactory sale'at'the following list of prices:—Fat ewes, 18s. 6d.; breeding owes, 13s. 4d. to 17s. Id.; good 2-tooth wethers, 18s. to 20s. 6d.; shorn lambs, 7s. to lis. Id.; store ewes, 7s. ,to Es.; fat cows, £7 7s. 6d.
Messrs.. Dalgety and : Company, Ltd., held-their weekly sole at; the Levin yards on Eriday last, when tihey offered to a good attendance of tho public heavy entries of both sheep and cattle, i Bidding rather lacked animation, especially ■ for Gheep, and prices for lambs and ewes showed a fall. of. about 6d. to 9d. per head. ■Wethers wore in. good' demand',, and late rates were maintained for this class of sheep. The inquiry for steers was good, and some satisfactory sales were effected. tWeanors and yearling cattle were hard to dispose , of, and a number of lines offered failed to find purchasers. Messrs. Abraham and Williams report on their Feilding sale of Friday last:— iWe had a large yarding 'of both sheep and cattle, owing no doubt to the dry spoil. Bidding was dull, and. ewes in lamb .wore hard to quit. Wo sold the bulk of our entry at prices slightly lower than last week. Wo quote:—Medium ewes, in Jamb, 12b.; good lambs, 13s. lid.: medium 10d. 9d. to lis.; small, Ee. to 63. Bd.; small 2-tooth ewes and wethers, 165.; forward ewes, 15s. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile [Agency Company, Ltd., report:—At the Daiuicvirkp sale, held in Miller's Hoad 3'ards yesterday sheep came forward in good numbers, but there was only a mod. eratc entry of cattle. There • was a smaller attendance of the public than usual. Prices for 6beep were considerably easier than of late, and bidding for cattle was the reverse of brisk. We quote :—Wethers, Ids. 4d„ 165.; fat wethers, JSs. lid., 19s. 3d.; fat ewes, 18s. 6d„ 195.: ewes, 4-toot.h to f.m„ 7s„ 10s., ,125.; mixed hoggets, 17s. 3d.; woolly-, lambs, 10s. 2d„ 13s. Competition for sheep was fairly good, but cattle of all classes met a dragging sale. Bidding for sheep was inclined to drag, and . there was little inquiry for inferior stook. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Palmerston North report;—We had an exceptionally rood Yarding of both sheep and cattle at E? FeUdinifsalc on Friday last WMe tho demand was keen for all stock showin- condition, backward and inferior lota met with little competition. Messrs. A. H. Atkim-on and Co., Ltd., sold on Friday a medium yarding of pigs, whioh made better values. Potatoes were in heavy supply. Best sorts made up to 9s. per sack.
