ITrom Our Special Correspondent.) .HTJTT DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. The final meeting of the Hutt District High School Committee was held on Friday. There were present: Mr. H. Baldwin (chairman), and Messrs. Barlow, MacaskilL Meldrum, Woodward, Gibson, and M'DougaU. It was intimated that the Technical classes would commence on May 17. In respect to the credit balance of £6 6s. derived from the recent picnic, it was agreed that it should be equally divided between the Eastern Hutt and the District High School's Library. The annual report, to bo presonted to the housed holders, congratulated the teaching staff on the efficiency of the school, and on the satisfactory reports from inspectors. The headmaster at Eastern Hutt was congratulated on the progress made since he took Tip the work there. The number of scholars on the roll last year was: Main School, 557; secondary, 13, total 570; Eastern Hutt, 153; total, 723. The attendance up to December, 1914, had been: Main School, 566; secondary, 14; Eastern Hutt, 184; total, 764. The number of scholars at' present attending is: Main School, 335; infant, 151; seoondary, 15; total, 501; Eastern Hutt, 228; infant, 88; total, 316. Total for both, 817, an increase of 94 on last year. During the year Mr. D. M. Yeats retired from the position of headmaster, and his place was filled by Mr. A. N. Burns, from the Carterton District High School, most satisfactorily. A nevr. school was erected by the board at Eastern Hutt during the year. The report also mentioned the good work executed by school children on behalf of the Belgian Fund, many sacrifices having been made by the little ones. The. Library fund had benefited to the extent of £15 13s. sd. ' A branch of the Petbna Technical School had been successfully started at the Hutt, and the attendance was as follows:—English and arithmetic, 31; shorthand and type-writ-ing, 21; book-keeping, 17; dressmaking, 14, The committee thanked the Educa. tion Board for establishing a separata school at Eastern Hutt, which appears to have a great future before it". The report was approved. Mr. M'Dougall was appointed deputy-chairman for the householders' meeting, and eight nominations were received for the Main, and eight for Eastern Hutt School Committees.
