A HERO OF THE CLOUDS
FRENCH AIRMAN'S GRIM FLIGHT * Paris, 'April 22. The "Petit Journal" says a French' pilot and observer successfully .dropped bombs on a corner of the Belgian coast, where there are nearly one hundred anti-air-craft guns. The aeroplane rose to a height of 9000 ft., in a storm of shot and shell, for the return journey. ■ A shell smashed the asle of the front wheels and passed through the oar, cutting off one of the pilot's feet. The explosion of the sliell nearly caused the machine to turn turtle, and the compass dropped out. The pilot rofnsed the observer's assistance, navigated the aeroplane for fifteen miles, and landed safely in the French. lines on ono pair 'of wheels. He crawled through the hole made by .tho shell, and later fainted.
