London, April 22. The Eight Hon. T. J. Macnamara, Parliamentary Secretary to tho Admiralty, announced in the Houso of Commons that the Turkish tbrpedo boat which escaped from Smyrna and stopped the troopship Manitou, allowed eight minutes for the troops to abandon tho transport. Three torpedoes wore fired, but missed. British destroyers then attacked the torpedo boat. Dr. Macnamara added: "While tho troops were leaving the transport the boats capsized;, one owing to overcrowding. There was nothing disquieting in the incident-, aiid 110 panic occurred." (Rec. April 23, 11.40 p.m.) London, April 23. Twenty-four men of the Royal Field Artillery were drowned in the Maui-, tou, and twenty-four are missing; also two of the South Wales Bordorors. ENEMY SAILED UNDER FALSE COLOURS. (Rec. April 24, 0.10 a.m.) Athens,, April 23. A Greek sailor on the Manitou states that the Turkish torpedo boat was flying the Russian flag, and signalled tlie Manitou to stop. The transport obeyed, and when .150 yards' away tho torpedo boat hoisted the Turkish flag and discharged her torpedo. Fearing that she was doomed, the commander of the Manitou lowered all his boats, which wore crammed with men,- when the relief cruiser arrived.
