R.M.S. MOANA, FItOJI BAN FRANCISCO. From San Francisco, via Papeete fl-nd Rarotonga, the "Union Company's R.M.S. Uoana arrived at Wellington at 7.45 p.m. yesterday. Klic berthed immediately at tlio Queen's Wharf, No. 6, and commenced landing mailb.' According to a report of tins journey supplied by Mr. W. C. Mcnsics, purser, depart,ure was taken fi'om San Krancisco on March 31. The Jloana left the wharf at 11.30 a.m., and anchored in the bay to await the arrival of the overland mail, whioh came to hand four hours later Golden Gate was cleared at 6 p.m.. and Papeete was reached at 7 a.m. on Aipril 12. Left Papeete again the following morning at 8 o'clock, and arrived <i P.a-ro-tonga. at 5.30 a.m. on April 15. Left Karototiga at 8.30 p.m. the same day, and arrived as above. The vessel exporeinced fresh N.E. and moderate S.E. trade winds and line weather till arrival at Papeete, and fine weather and smooth eea to Harotonga, thence strong head'winds and moderate sea to arrival at Wellington.

The. Jloana had the following cargo to land at this port:—69oo- cases dried fruits. 1500 casts cauned fruits, 1144 cases freeli eggs, 315 kegs lead, 50 barrels lub. oil, 72 cases lub. oil, 40 packages ■ auto tires, 25 rolls and 227 pigs lead, 44 packages periodicals, 43 cases typewriters, 15 oases chewing gum. 17 caseu nickel clocks, 15 sacks seed, 57 eacks Lima beans, 66 crates roofiuj, 207 crates building paper, 16 casks printing ink, 29 drums bitumen, 66 casks G&sings, 830 sacks oats, 244 cases J1.0.P. Shell, 30 cases Vanilla beans, 22..cases corsets. 51 packages rubber goods, 8356 cases bananas, 5787 cases oranges, 20 Eacks coconuts, and sundries.

It is expeoted that the Jfoana will get a-way from Wellington for Sydney at 5 p.m. to-day.

MOTTISFONT ARRIVES HOME. A cable has been received by .the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company statiug that their chartered steamer Mottisfont had arrived at Gravescnd from Wellington on April 21.

INTERCOLONIAL' SERVICE CHANGES. According to information received by tho local office of the Union Company, the Paloona will withdraw from the intercolonial service on arrival at Dunedin on May 6, and will enter the East Coast running in place of the Westralia. She will leavo Dunedin for Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, Gisborne, and Auckland on May 7.

The Mokoia, at present engaged in the Sydney-Cook Strait-Wellington service, will be replaced by the Moeraki. which has been undergoing an extensive overhaul at Dunedin. The Mokoia has been fixed to leave Dunedin on May 8 for Hobart and Melbourne, via Lyttelton and Wellington, . and she will remain in that service. 31ESS TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. J. Richards, cecond officer of the Ngakuta. left - that vessel at Wellington yesterday, and his. place has been taken by Mr. H. WooUum. Captain M. Pierotti has taken command of the Rimu, in place of Captain A. Parris, who has come ashore on holiday leave. Captain A. Stephenson hag transferred to the Daphne, and Captain E. M'Leod is to join the Clansman to-day after being on holiday. Captain J. Wilson lias rejoined the Olaymore,' and C-aptain E. H. Goertz has taken command of the Waimarie, relit.ving Captain J. Frteman, who is ashore on holiday. Captain F. Beaf>h is proceeding to Tauranga to take command of the auxiliary lighter Te Teko. Mr. A. W. Godfrey has passed his examination for a ohief officer's certificate, and has joined the Katoa as second officer, relieving llr. Cox, who has been granted holiday leave. Captain Mitnro, Marine Superintendent of the Canterbury' Steamship Company, is at present on a visit to Dunedin.. Mr. E. C. Vellehoweth, lato chief officer of the Talune, has been transferred to the Moeraki. and Mr. Dinsmore, who has returned from holiday leave, has been appointed second officer of the Moeraki'. Mr. G. P. Anderson, late purser of the -Poherua, has gone to Dunedin for orders.

Mr. W. R. Percy, one of tho Aparimn's cadet.6, has joined the Makura as fourth officor, and Mr.' R. T. Ingram, another cadet, has joined the Wanaka as third officer.

The Union Company's Talune will leave Auckland for the Eastern Pacific on Tuesday, May 11, in place of the Taviuni. She will run as. a cargo steamer only in tho meantime. Discharge of the Wellington portion of the Koromiko's Newcastle coal should be completed in time for the vessel to leave here for Napier on Monday. Tho barque ltona (Captain J. B. Munns), from Newcastle, arrived in Port Nelson on Sunday morning, after a passage of seven days. Heavy seas with varying winds were encountered on the trip. On the evening of April 13 the Rona ran into a terrific electrical storm. The thunder claps wore deafening, and the lightning flashes blinding. Captain Munns states that it was one of the wor6t storms of that sort he has, experienced. The Rona, 618 tons, is an iron shijp, built in Belfast in 1885. This is her first visit to Nelson. -The vessel has on board 1050 tons of coal, consigned to tho railway and tho gasworks. Latest advice received from Greymouth states that the collier' Kamo was stiU barbound at that port .on account of bad weather. , „ . The local office of the Union Company has been advised that the Atua cleared from Suva lor Auckland at 4 p.m. on Wed nesday. Sho is due there on Monday next, and lias 1600 packages of fruit on. board for Wellington. ■ Information has been received stating that Messrs. J. J. Craig, Ltd.-'s (Auckland), new steamer Onana, bound from London to F-emantle, left Cape Town on April 17. - Transhipments ex'the Uhangapc will be brought to Wellington by tho Moeraki on Plymouth and.
