MIRAMAR AFFAIRS

BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the Mirar mar Borough Council was held last night. There were present: The Mayor (Mr. F. -Townsand), alnd Gauncillora. B. M. .Stone, M. Tracy, H. A. Smith, S. Uitderwood, and Dr. Edith Huntly. The City Tramway Board wrote intimating that in connection with- the minimum fare care, special through fares had been provided for the 6.1 p.m. car and 5.7 p.m. cars to Miramar and Seatoun respectively. ' A letter was received from the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to the effect that the estimates for 1915-16 apportioned £563 Ids. to the council as its levy. The communication was "received."

A.ratepayer, Mr. \V. H. Atack, wrote applying for exemption in the matter of connecting 'his premises with the public sewer.—His request was refused. Another ratepayer, Mr. G. S. Amo6, wrote complaining that the sewer ejector was not working properly. —It was decided to notify him that the engineer had the matter in hand.

In a review of the work carried out during the past year, the borough engineer (Mr T. 0. Fox) said that the only new road constructed during the year was the. formation of that part of Inglis Street between Duudas and Forres Streets, costing £71 (is. 9d. In road repairs the expenditure had been £643 6s. 9d. In respect to the waterworks only one extension of the mains was made, namely that in Ludlam Street, at a cost of £17 14s. lid. Eighty-nino ordinary connections had been, made to private houses. Water received from the Gity totalled 20,285,000 gallons, compared with 13,5-19,000 gallons the previous year. One hundred and eight connections had been made with the sewago scheme. During the year 38 building permits had been issued, of a total value of £12,353, as against £6502 for t'hoso issued the previous year.
