NEWS OF OPERATIONS IN EAST PRUSSIA
London, April 21, 10,80 a.m. '"The Russians on Sunday repulsed, by. fire and hand grenades, enemy attacks at positions east of_ Telephocz and Polen. "In the direction of Stryj, a hostile attack on a height near Orawezik was at first suocessful: but in the evening the Russians , made a counterattack arid re-occupied the height, after an obstinate fight, taking prisoners. "In the Eastern Hazanba range on Sunday we exploded a mine under the German position. The Russians immediately, by a bayonet attack, carried the position and captured one hundred Germans, ' four machine-guns, a trench, and * mortar.
London, April 22, 5.25 p.m. "On Tuesday night the Russians repulsed an Austrian attack near Gorlioe, in 'Western Galicia. "On Monday the enemy's attacks on several of. the Russian positions in the Carpathians proved abortive. The enemy's attempt to regain the Polen height v vas particularly stubborn, and his losses wero very great. The first batch if prisoners to arrive here totalled five hundred. "A numbei of German aeroplanes dropped a hundred bombs on Rialvstok on Tuesday, killing or wounding some civilians. On the same night a Zeppelin bombarded Ciechanow (in Poland), but did no damaga. "The Russians successfully bombarded Soldau Station, in East Prussia."
