ENEMY GOODS AFTER THE WAR
PROPOSED SURCHARGE IN AUSTRALIA. ,
Melbourne, April 20. 'A deputation from the Chamber of Manufacturers asked Mr. Fisher (Federal Prime • Minister) "to impose a. surcharge of 25 per cent, on enemy goods for ten years after the war. The deputation also suggested a threeschedule tariff on Canadian lines. This •would provide for preference to British goods, lesser preference to most- favoured nations, and ordinary tariff to enemy goods.
. Cabinet consideration of the suggestion was promised.
GOVERNMENT'S DECISION.
Melbourne, April 20. Mr. Tudor (Federal Minister of Customs) announced that the Government has decided not to impose a surcharge on German goods after the war. Any tariff discrimination in favour of foreign commodities will be reciprocal.
