LADIES' HOCKEY ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of the AYellington Ladies' Hockey Association was held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms last evening. Mr. A. A, Bennett presided. The annual report stated, inter alia, that the past season had been a most successful one, with every indication of a stili brighter future. Seven clubs affiliated to the association, and from, these seven senior and four junior teams were put on the field. The visit of aii English ladies' team was a marked feature of the season, and owing to this and an exceedingly wet winter, tho matches for the season were somewhat curtailed. The Rambler A team was winner of tho rose-bowl and the Wellington Technical College team winner ol' the Junior Cup. A representative match against the Horowhenua ladies was pla.wd during the season, and also one against a team from Palmerston North.
It is hoped that all clubs will endeavour to maintain iu tho future the science in hockey displayed by the English team. The association wishes to thank Mrs. Ward as secretary of a party of ladies who formed themselves into an enthusiastic committee, taking tho whole responsibility of billeting ana entertaining the English ladies on each occasion of their being in Wellington. Thanks were also due to Mr. A. A. Bennett for acting as president, to Mr. Manning as selector, also for their united and strenuous efforts in making the visit of tho English team a successful one. The association also thanked Miss Coates for her presentation to the junior player who showed most improvement during the season; Messrs. J. P. Luke, A. A. Bennett, and Dr. PlattsMills for donations; all those who gave guarantees; tho proprietors of the King's Theatre for giving a benefit night; Mr. Salek, the association's auditor; Mr. A. A. Bennett; the Y.M.C.A. and Mr. J. D. .M'lntyre for use of rooms for meeting; and all those gentlemen who refereed the ladies' matches during the season. • The financial position of the association is very satisfactory for after paying oS Inst year's debt of £6 Is. 6d., there still remains a credit balance of £20 13s. Id.
Air. Bennett, in moving the adoption of the report, congratulated the association 011 the success that attended the English-Wellington match last year. He urged the clubs to foster the game by canvassing for young players. He also referred to the fact that there was a substantial credit against a debit last year.
Officers were elected as follows:— President, Mr. A. A. Bennett; vicepresidents ; Miss Coates. Dr. PlattsMills, Rev. G. B. Stephenson, Mr. J. P. Luke, Hon. A. L\ Herdman, and Mr. J. C. Peacock; lion, secretary, Miss D. Tinney; assistant secretary, Miss E. Paterson; lion, treasurer, Miss Welsby; auditors, Messrs. Gendall and Salek; Management Committee, Misses C. •Smith, ■W. Carrick, R, Grenside, E. Paterson, and W. Watt; sole selector, Mr. A. W. Manning; delegate to New Zealand Association, Miss Welsby.
The Junior Championship Cup was presented by the chairman_ to the representatives of the Technical College Club.
A meeting of the Management Committee was also held, Mr. Bennett preIt was decided to commence championship matches on Saturday, May 8 j entries to close on Monday, May_3.' Misses Tinney, Paterson, and Smith were elected a Matcli Committee.
The Te Aro School Ladies' Hockey Club was affiliated to the association.
The Mayoress, Mrs. J. P. Luke, acknowledges the sum of £45 received ftoiu the Mayoress of Auckland, Mrs. J. Parr, for the Baso Hospital at Trentham.
Mr. Brookes, cf the Bristol Piano Company, is donating an harmonium to' tho men of the Philomel in response to the appeal which was made the otlier day by the Mayoress.- Mrs. Moorhouse, wiic had intended giving one, has now given instead a gramaphone and records. Gifts of disk records to bo forwarded on to the Philomel will ba gladly received by tho Mayoress and her committee at the Town Hall.
Mrs. B. Craven-Jones, 'l'imaru, accompanied by her sister, Miss Olive Young, arrived by the Wahine from Lyttelton yesterday, and leave for Hamilton and Auckland this evening.
Miss Little, Matron of the Hokitika Hospital, and her sister, Mrs. Campbell, nro visiting Wellington. Miss Little reLurns to the south on Friday.
