At Monday evening's meeting of the Petone Borough Council the following reports were adopted:— The engineer's report stated that the Koro Koro roads were in fair order. All the tables had' been cleansed, aud the boatshed was praotically finished. On the Esplanade a considerable amount of filling-in had been done. On tho Recreation Ground the trenching for the bowling green was finished, and the levelling was progressing. The clockwork in. the Venturi meter had given some trouble, owing to the machine netting out of level through a slight subsidence in the floor, which was subsequently put right. Some horses had been procured for the sanitary work, at an average price of £43, and at the same time a horse was procured for the ambulance van at a price of £32. The building permits issued for the month were:—One dwelling and four miscellaneous, of a total value of £460, the amount in fees being £1 6s. Tho total value of permits for the year was £18,977 10s., and the amount in fees was £53 6s.
The inspector's report ''stated that eighty visits had been made during the month, five written notices to abate nuisances, two to clear noxious weeds, and one to repair a fence, had been served. Tho following licenses had been paid:—Carriers, £8; petroleum, £2 10s. ; milk, 2s. 6d.; motors, £1 10s.; dog "tax, £40 17b. 6d. Twenty new plumbing jobs have been passed as satisfactory, and one drain tested. The sewerage engineer's report showed that the total expenditure was £34.643 12s. Id.
The gas manager reported that the amount of coal carbonised during the month was 256} tons, and the amount of gas manufactured 8.089,800 cubic feet; the average make per ton being 12,019 cubic feet. Upwards of 88 tons of coke, 2471 gallons of tar, and 112} tons of coal had been sold to privato customers. There were oyer 492 tons of coal in stock. Ten new gas services had been laid, three lifted and relaid, 26 meters had been repaired, ~12 new meters fixed, and 9 exchanged; four cookers and one bath-lioater installed, and three houses had been reticulated, and all syphons had been cleancd. Regarding the water services, five new ones had been laid and four repaired. Two fire-plugs and one valve had been repaired, and all tho mains flushed. The council decided strongly to support the proposal of the- Hospital Board to purchase a milk farm. It was agreed to defer consideration of the estimates and apportionment of tlw board.
TENDERS FOR FOOTBALL GROTJND. At tlie last meeting of tlie Hutt Borough Council a deputation representing tlie Wellington Rugby League applied for permission to tender for a ground at the Hutt, as they had been under a misapprehension as to when tlio tenders closed. After considering tlie mattor tlie council decided to call for fresli tenders, to plose on Friday last at 5 p.m. At a subsequent meeting of the Reserve.', Committee the tender of the Wellington Rugby Union, whicli consisted of ail offer of £3.) for the ground, with all gate money, and a guarantee that four senior matches would be plated, w«h accepted.
