STOLEN SHINGLE

A LAWYER'S SUGGESTION.

"I ask the indulgence of the' Court to mention this matter in tho hope that the City -Council may take action," said Mr. P. J. O'Regan in the Magistrate's Court yesterday in speaking ou behalf of a client who was charged on the information of tho Marine Department with unlawfully removing sand and shinglo from the beach at Ohiro Bay, and who had pleaded guilty. Mr. O'Regan informed the Court that there.-was an abundance of material 1 at the next bay (Run-around Bay), to which spot access could only be gained when tho tide was out, and then only with great difficulty. By a very modest expenditure a. good road could be mado to the locality. ■ By this, the temptation to removo f shingle from Ohiro Bay would be gone. Shingle, continued Mr. O'Regan, was in constant demand for building purposes, and until better access was provided to "the spot" referred to it was too much to expect carters to refrain from "lifting" shingle from Ohiro Bay. A similar charge was also preferred against another person, and a broad smile went around the court when' Mr. E. M. Beechey (City Council solicitor) informed tho Court that the accused was a corporation employee. A remand was granted to April 26 in respect to this case.
