YACHTING
POET NICHOLSON CLUB. Tho Port Ncih'olson Yacht Club held the last raco of the season on Saturday afternoon, when the first-class yachts competed in a club handicap race. The weather was perfect, but the wind was rather on the light side, which brought out all tho kites the boats could sot—a most unusual thing for Wellington, where the yachtsmon are more used to a two-reefed breeje. The course was from the 'Clyde Quay Wharf round Jcriiingham buoy to Koro Koro buoy, back to Jcrningham and the finishing lino. The scratch bo,.t Ailsa romped home an easy winner, and tho crew deserve to bo commended for the smart appearance Bhe presented. The finish between Eona and Wairere for second place was in doubt up to the finishing line, when Bona- got a catspaw, which drew her over the line 25 seconds ahead of Wairere. The race was made more interesting owing to the fact that the large Evans Bay schooner White Wings competed with the club's best boats, and put up a very creditable performance, and in a heavier breeze would shake some of the champions up.
