B. Busfield, who arrived in the Dominion last January from Bradford (England), has accepted a nail to the pastorate of tlie Sydenham Baptist Church. The Rev. 0. H. and Mrs, Standage find Miss Standage, who have just removed from Carterton to the Karori and Northland section of the Thorndon Methodist Circuit, were given a hearty, welcome at a 60cial gathering held at the Karori Methodist Schoolroom on Friday evening. There was a large attendance, Mr. J. G.' Raine presiding. Addresses of welcome were delivered»bv the chairman, also Messrs. J, Cable, It. S. Hart, and A. M'Lachlan. It was remarkable that it should fall to the Rev. A.. C. W. Standage (minister of the Kel'burn Presbyterian Church), on behalf of the Presbyterian Churches at Karori and Kelburn, to extend a welcome to his father as minister of the Methodist Churches in the same district. The Rev. C. H. Standage acknowledged the many kindly sentiments expressed by tile various speakers. Although associated with different denominations, both father and son expressed their intention of working in hearty tion for the one great aim of the Chris-' tian Church. Notwithstanding that the Eev. C. H. Standage for the past forty years has rendered honoured and valued service to the Methodist Church of New Zealand, lie is still willing to assist the work of the Church by taking up work at the Karori and Northland Churches. During the evening songs were rendered bv Mrs. A. C. W. Standage, Misses Flaws, and D, Clark, Messrs. Blackie, A. Okey. and F|. Flaws: recitations were contributed bv Misses Palmer, H. and D. JDryden and V. Collins, and Mr. Blackie, whilst a duologue was given by Mioses H. Workman and V. Collins. Mrs. A. .'C. W. Standage acted as accompanist. Prior to the termination of the social the ladv members of the congregation provided refreshments.-
Gabled advice lias been received to the effect that Captain White-Parsons, master of the R.M.S. Turakina, who was put ashoro at Cape Town, suffering from appendicitis, is now convalescent. Captain Curtis, chief officer of the Turakina. is navigating the vessel to New Zealand. , , A Christchurch exchange states that Mr. Gerald F. Gray, a member of the staff of the legal firm of Messrs. Kippenberger, Franks, and Hunter, who is leaving to join the Expeditionary Force, was the reoipient of presentations from tie members of the firm and of the staff. Mr. Gray is well-known in at]>. letic circles. Prior to his departure for Trentliaw, where he will be in charge of the Y.M.C.A. work, the Board of Directors and others connected 'with the Chri6tchurcli association presented Mr. J« Hay with a wristlet watch. Mr. F. S. Pope, Secretary of the Denartment of Agriculture, is accompanying the Japanese Trade Commission in its tour of New Zealand. Mr. W. T. Weller was admitted to the office of deacon at St. Paul's Pro-Cathe-dral yesterday morning by the Anglican Bishop of Wellington (Dr. Sprott). The candidate was presented by Archdeacon Fancourti and the Rev. A. M. Johnson preached an appropriate sermon. Mr. AVeller has been appointed to the Ohakune district.
An interesting ceremony took place on Saturday at noon in the tramway car sheds, Newtown, when the Superintendent, Mr. Leah, presented Mr. C. G. Williamson with a case of pipeß and pouch on behalf of the employees at, the sheds, the occasion being the departure of Mr. Williamson with the Expeditionary Force. Mr. Leah eulogised the recipient's patriotic spirit, and trusted that he would have a 6afe return. Mr. Williamson made a suitable reply. On Saturday, Lieutenant G. W. Henderson (sth . Reinforcements) and Messrs. W. A. Gordon and G. C. Sherwood, who are joining the Sixth Reinforcements, were presented by their fel-low-employees at the Bristol Piano , Co., Ltd., with handsome wristlet watches and other gifts. iilr. R. E. Sinclair has been nominated by Messrs. G. Johnston and D. Anderson for a sekt on the Wellington Harbour Board at the forthcoming elections.
An unfortunate error crept into the advertisement of the St. John's. Church' service in Saturday's issue. The subject of the Rev. Dr. Gibb's sermon delivered last evening: should have been given a? "Types of Heroes." At a meeting of_ the Greytowa Borough Council on Friday night the Spiral Pipe Company's tender for high-pres-sure pipes was acoepted.
