Mr. Gladstone was a second lieutenant in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He reached the front a-month ago. He was one of the first civilians. to join the Army at the outbreak' of the war, feeling that an example was necessary. The late Mr. Gladstone -had a premonition that he would not return. [Mr. William Glynne Charles Gladstone, Liberal M.P. for Kilmarnock Burgs since 1911, was born in 1885, being the eldest son of tlie late Mr. W. H. Gladstone, M.P., and the Hon. Gertrude Stuart (fourth, daughter of the twelfth Lord Blantyre), and, a grandson of the Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone. He was educated at Eton and New College (Oxford), and in 1907 was President, of the Oxford Union. For some time he was an honorary attache to the British Embassy at Washington. He was Lord Lieutenant of Flintshire, and president of'the Territorial Force Association of Flint. On August 15, last, he volunteered for active service, and was appointed a second lieutenant (on probation) in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers.]
