NOTES AND COMMENTS

TBY GLENCOH.I

Satisfactory acceptances have been received for the second, day of the Wellington Eacing Club's Autumn Meeting at (Trentham to-morrow. , Two fresh horses are included in the Second Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase, The Polo and Grey Renown, 'lhe Pole Probably has ,been left in by oversight, 21 ®?nown, who did not start with ■?T; 16 ® rs ' day, is weighted at lOst. 31b. The latter probably will be sent out favourite. Captain Flint may run well. There is only a margin of eleven pounds between the top and the bottom weights in the Hutt Handicap, and. there are eleven acceptors for the event. This should prove one of the most difficult events of the day for punters to make a ohoice in. Belasco should improve on his first day's form and Allen Doone and ICaminohe will not lack supporters. Banksia was-running well at the finish of the ■ Thompson Handicap, but may be reserved t\!or the big handicap. Doon, who, after playing up at the post and bolting towards the stables, led the . field for seven furlongs in the Silverstream Handicap, one mile, on Wednesday last, has only been raised three pounds for the seven-furlong event to-morrow. . If Mr. Smart's inaro had better manners at the starting gate, she would probably go out favourite. Blackall (unless ho «tarts in the Hutt Handicap) niay be well' fancied for this race, and Haumakaka and Sylvan Dale should also meet; with support. Twelve horses are left in the Autumn Handicap, and it is an.open looking race. Red Book. Multiply <si,d Castalia nay be most fancied,- but .Chakwana's unex•pected win on Wednesday should'direct . attention to' Kilrain. He has run some of his best races on the Trentham coutsb and although his form of late ha 9 been disappointing, he is likely to have a good many • friends.

In the.Nursery Handicap on. the first day Hyginas accounted for his field- in such:convincing fashion that, despite the steadier of 9st. 21b., he may go out favourite. Eligible (a full-hrothor to Bon Ton), who shaped -well for a few furlongs in the Challenge Stakes, and Privation, who showed a good turn of speed in the Plunket' Nursery, may be Telied on to make an interesting race of it... Warstep. will of course be the popular fancy for the. Gold' Cup, but it should prove a most interesting • race. Indigo, who dead-heated with Warstep in the last New Zealand Cup, is a stayer; 60 also is Merry Roe, who won the eTent last year. Ladoga, Pavlova, and Balboa are also a strong trio and if the race is run to suit them, anything might happen. This race alone should .make the visit to Trentham to-morrow worth the journey. The Suburban Handicap should also prove a. great race. Chortle is in great, form just now, and so also is Hoy, who did not get too good a passage in the Thompson Handicap. Sartorze also had all the worst of the luck in that race, being cut out at the start and having- to run all round his field. Croesus, despite his failure at Riccarton, will not lack sapporters, and Gold Soult and Chudic are another pair that must command Tespect. It will be a puzzle to sort them out tomorrow. '

Client's performance in the Tinakori Handicap on Wednesday will not be overlooked when the bell rings for the last Jace to-morrow. Tirana and Captain Glossop. despite a Hlb. penalty, will also be ■likely to receive, attention.

A number of horsM which did not race ton the firetday appear amongst the accep.tors foT the second day's races at Trenyham. The Pole arid Grey Renown are ■in (the Steeplechase; Rene; Chillies, Stepney, Mount Victoria, and Merry Gain in -4he Hutt Handicap; Rerehau in the Muritai Handicap; Sir Knox and Red Book in the Autumn Handicap; Croesus, Bonny Kigg, and Margarita in the Suburban ■Handicap, and Dinner Goug and Tirana ■in the Balmoral Hack Handicap. The second day of the Wellington Racing Club's Autumn Meeting will be held [to-irorrcw. The chief race of ithe day 'will be for the Gold' Cup. The "first train will leave .Lambton at 10.10 a.m. Nominations' for-tho Autumn Meeting "of tho Marlborough Racing Club close fwith the secretary, Mr. L. Griffiths, Blen'Jieirii, to-night. BLOOD STOCK SALES. The thoroughbred stock owned by the late Mr. Herbert Hodge were submitted at auction by Abraham and Williams, in -conjunction with J. 3. Com' and Co., iof Blenheim, yesterday.
