CONFERENCE CONTINUED. The New Zealand Alliance Convention was continued yesterday in St. : John's Schoolroom. .Following is the official report supplied The session was presidod over by Mr. H. E. Pticey, of Auckland. Mr. A. S. Adams, of Dunediii, spoke upon the question of "Licensing Legislation." and said that the people had shown their will by their vote in electing mombers to the House who were in favour of reducing the majority required on the licensmg' question. This being so, it was reasonable to expect that the Government would early deal with this question. The people, by their vote, had placed the question beyond, controversy; hence, such legislation could not be classed as controversial. Certain other amendments were also desired. The hours during wbioli liquor could be sold should be shortened. In Scotland the bars were not opened until 10 a.m. In South Australia the people had recently voted that the bars should be closed at 6 p.m. New Zealand ought to be at progressive as either Scotland or Australia. Russia had also become a Prohibition country. Mr. A. R. Atkinson spoke upon "Electoral Legislation," and referred to the irregularities in connection with the recent poll, and the need of changes in the law so that a clean vote should be taken. At the evening session, Mr. A, R. Atkinson presided. The following resolutions were passed: "That all persons officiating at electoral and licensing polls be appointed frtm the ranks of the Civil Scrvico, such as accountants, schoolmasters, etc." "That the principle of polling booth areas provided with separate rolls, as in practice in New South Wales, be adopted in New Zealand." The question of organisation was disoussed at considerable length.
