With regard to the Navy, added Mr. Fisher, it was expected that the cruiser Brisbane would be launched, and the new destroyers completed this year. WAR EXPENDITURE. (Rcc. April 15, 0.10 a.m.) '-. Melbourne, April 14. Mr. Fisher added that 80 per cent, of the troops, were Australian born. Touching upon finance, he said that on present indications and estimates the revenue for the year would be satisfactory on the whole, and though there would be a shortage, it would be unlikely to cause serious embarrassment. . The expenditure to February 28 totalled £21,836,070; receipts,. £20,987,975, compared with the estimate of £36,361,214 for the whole year. The war expenditure would exceed the estimates, but would be met out of an additional loan of six millions and a half, granted by the Imperial Government, making a total of 24 i million to be received up till the end of December. The Allies, he added, faced the opening of the spring campaign with the highest hopes of success..... •..
