"Eye-Witness" witli the British Army in Franco writes: —"An attempt,to obtain a census for the purposes of the evacuation of Belgium caused a riot at Roubaix, where the women,- indignant at the shortage of bread/ attacked the bakers' shops. The German Governor informed the Mayor that he intended to call out his troops, but tho latter advised him that a hundred thousand Germans would be no match for the women_ of Roubaix, who were skilled at throwing bottles.— ("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.)
