COMING ELECTIONS

'A COMPLEX CONSTITUTION. There is only one Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, to be elected on April 28,- but no fewer than thirteen local bodies are concerned in its constitution. Not that each of those bodies is competent to return a member—that with the large number required- to represent the city would make the board far too cumbersome. To get over that difficulty the various districts represented bv the local bodies concerned are grouped into combined districts, in the following manner: —Wellington City Council, Miramar and Karori Borough Councils, 14 members; Makara County Council, Johnsonville Town Board, and Onslow Borough' Council, 1; Horowhemia County Council and Levin Borough Council, 2; Hutt and Eastbourne Borough Councils, 1; Petone, 1; and Hutt- County Council and Upper Hutt Town Board, 1; in all 20 members. In the case of the election of four members of the. Harbour Board, Wellington, Miramar, and Karori are alone concerned. Onslow, Eastbourne, Petone, and Lower Hutt Borough Councils, the . Hutt County _ Council, Makara .■ County Council, and Johnsonville Town Board are • concerned" in the return of th© two members to represent the suburbs and counties, and the Returning Officers for those places will have to Teport to the Chief Returning Officer for each combined district. For Miramar, and Karori, that official is Mr. James Ames; for Suburbs and Makara, and Hutt Counties, Mr. W. J. Gardner, Town Clerk, Petono; for Manawatu, Mr. C: E. Short, care of Public Library, Palmerston North; for Wairarapa, Mr. R. Brown, No. 2 Queen Street, Masterton. This date of the closing of nominations for Mayor, Council, Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and Harbour Board has been fixed for noon on Monday next, April 19, instead of Saturday, April 17, as originally announced. .
