COMING ELECTIONS
AN AWAKENING INTEREST. The fact that the nomination of candidates for the Mayor, the City Council, Hospital and Charitable Aid Board and Harbour Board close on Saturday next is being made abundantly clear by the scene of activity which ■ centres round the Chief Returning Officer's room in the Town. Hall. Although but few names have been handed in so far a large number of nomination papers for each of the bodies mentioned have been issued, and there is every indication of a lively contest in each case. So far no nominations for the Mayoralty have been received, but it is interesting to learn that more nomination papers, have been issued than will suffice for the three already announced candidates—Messrs. J. P. Luke, R. Fletcher, and C. H. Chapman. For the City Council Mr. John Fuller has been nominated by Messrs. E. R. Dimock and J. A. Tripe; Mr. W, J. Thompson, by the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken, M.L.C., and Mr. T. Ward; and Mr. John Hutcheson by Messrs. W. A. Flavell and W. C. Stephens. The only oandidates nominated so far for the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board are Mr. Duncan Campbell and the Rev. H. Van Staveren, both sitting members of the board.
Labour candidates for the Mayoralty and City Council seats will address the electors at 8 p.m. at Green Street, Sydney Street, and Abel Smith Street to-night. On Friday they will give addresses at Boyd's Store, and tram tar-: minus, Lyall Bay. Mr. W. J. Thompson will be/ a candidate for the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.
