CANTERBURY'S DROUGHT
THE PROSPECT OF A BAD WINTER. Tho Prime Minister was greatly struck on hn recent visit to Canterbury with the serious effect of the drought there. "Canterbury is" at present suffering from a somewhat serious drought," ho said to a reporter on Saturday. "The continued dry weather, while it is allowing tho threshing and lato harvesting operations to be proceeded with expeditiously is intensifying the difficulty with regard to the export of frozen meat. Producers told me that, fat stock, and especially lambs, are already losing condition, and that feed' is exceedingly scarce. If heavy rains do not come very soon the outlook for the winter will be very bad indeed."
