The Petona Defence Rifle Club fired Sractice matches 5, 6, 7, and 8, as laid own by the Defence Department, on their range at Waiwetu on Saturday. There was a large muster of. members, and considering this was the first time some of the members had shot, they acquitted themselves with credit. Rifleman J. Carter, last year's service champion, again made top score. As Rifleman J. Carter is one of the club's champion bull's-eye shots, his coming top two seasons in succession should help to dispel the idea that a bull's-eye shot cannot be a good service 6hot. The following are the scores—Match No. 5, 5 shots, grouping at 100 yards; Match. No. 6, 5 shots, ssec. exposure, at 200 yards; Match No. 7, 10 shots in one minute, at 200 yards; Match No. 8, 5 shots, Msec, exposure, at 500 yards:—
