AFTER FIERCE BAYONET FIGHTING ALLIES COMMAND THE PLAINS OF THE WOEVRE The High Commissioner reports ;— London, April 9, 5.5 p.m. Paris reports: "We have made new progress in the Meuse-Moselle area Les Eparges have gained further ground. The trenches were completely choked with German corpses. We repulsed two counter-attacks at the end of the day. In the Bois de Montmare we maintained all our progress, despite a very violent counter-attack. We repulsed ■ seven attacks last night." London, April 10,1.35 p.m. Paris reports: "After a fresh and brilliant attack, an important position at Les Eparges, dominating the Plain of the Woevre, which the. enemy defended obstinately, is entirely in our power. We carried yesterday at Moren fifteen hundred metres (1878 yards) of trenches, and seized a small portion of the remainder, taking _ one hundred and fifty prisoners. Thus-we have achieved one of the principal objects of our operations during the last few Says. "South of the Bois d'Ailly we have maintained our gains for a depth of two hundred metres on a front of four hundred metres, and repulsed three counter-attacks. "In tho Bois Montmare the Germans made fifteen attempts to regain the trenches which were taken yesterday, but all were repulsed, pilea of German dead being left on the ground. "North of Beausejour (east of the Argonne), the enemy's attempt to regain the trenches was frustrated, with considerable loss. "South-east of Hartmansweiler Kop (in Alsace), one hundred and fifty Germans were taken prisoners." London, April 10, 4.5 p.m. Further reports arriving during tho night, relate that two attacks have rendered the Allies masters of the last of tho German positions at Les Eparges. The attacks consisted of determined bayonet engagements. GERMANS RE-CROSS THE YSER . BELGIAN TRENCH CAPTURED BY THE ENEMY. (Rec. April 11, 3.30 p.m.) ■ , . P"l«< April 10. The Germans recrossed to the left bank of the Yser, near Driegrachten, and captured a Belgian trench. NIGHT ATTACK BY ALLIES' AIRMEN. (Rcc. April 11, 3.30 p.m.) Amsterdam, April 10. Tho Allies' airmen on Thursday evening dropped seven bombs on "the German position at Knocke, in Flanders. The result is not known. The Germans shot fireballs, brilliantly illuminating the sky, but without locating the airmen. THE DAILY LIST OF BRITISH CASUALTIES. London, April 9, 5.5 p.m. Army casualties:—Officers': Killed, 7; wounded, 7. Men: Killed, 334; wounded, 689; missing, 81. Sir John French reports that there is nothing new. The British troops repulsed an attack on Wednesday night.
